The Town of Cary’s film festival produced by The Cary Theater returns Sept. 21-24, 2023. The 6th annual BEYOND: The Cary Film Festival is now accepting short film and screenplay submissions thru May 31.
CARY, N.C. – BEYOND: The Cary Film Festival returns September 21-24, 2023 for its sixth year as the best little film festival for warm, Southern hospitality. Produced by the Cary Theater, BEYOND is now accepting screenplays and short films (<40 minutes) for festival competition through May 31, 2023. BEYOND is an independent film and screenwriting festival that takes place at the Cary Theater downtown. Submission criteria is available here.
“BEYOND is an opportunity for talented filmmakers of all experience levels to share their works with a welcoming community,” said Lani Simeona, festival producer and theater operations and programs supervisor. “It’s also an opportunity for independent filmmakers to interact, share and learn within a supportive environment.
SUBMIT YOUR FILM – DEADLINE: MAY 31
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible, short films and screenplays must be completed after Jan. 1, 2022. Films 40 minutes or less are considered shorts. Films that have been publicly broadcast in the U.S. are ineligible. Note – Films that have been digitally screened with restricted availability as part of an online festival selection are still eligible. Screenplays completed after Jan. 1, 2022 are eligible for BEYOND 2023. It must be written in English and under 40 pages in length. Screenplays that have been optioned, purchased, or produced at the time of submission are ineligible.
BENEFITS
Each official selection will receive two festival passes to attend screenings and events at BEYOND 2023. Filmmakers and the Screenplay winner will have the opportunity to participate in Q&As. The winning films and screenplay will compete for cash prizes worth more than $6,000. More information will be available at the time of acceptance.
COMPLETED FILMS
We strongly encourage filmmakers and screenwriters to submit the most complete version of their film or screenplay. Only one version of the film or screenplay may be submitted. Beyond cannot guarantee that multiple or updated versions of a submitted film or screenplay will be reviewed. Works-in-Progress and Rough Cuts are not accepted.
PREMIERES
Beyond does not have a premiere requirement. Note: films that have been publicly broadcast in the U.S. are ineligible.
NOTIFICATION & FEEDBACK
All filmmakers and screenwriters will be notified of their status in July 2023. If your contact information or premiere status changes between submission entry and our notification date, please update your information in Film Freeway and email changes to your festival contact. BEYOND committee members do not provide feedback on submitted films or screenplays.
