CARY, N.C. – The Town of Cary’s zombie-themed downtown block party will take place October 25 at The Cary Theater. The fourth annual Zombiepalooza features 12 locally produced short films shown on a giant outdoor screen in front of the theater. Attendees are encouraged to dress as a favorite zombie or horror film character, with prizes for best films and costumes.
“Each year, our October programming is capped off by local residents who participate in our zombie movie-making contest,” said Joy Ennis, supervisor for The Cary Theater. “Locals have made this event their own, creating wacky zombie films and channeling their inner zombie with over-the-top costumes.”
Families are invited to celebrate the Halloween season at this all-ages block party for zombie horror fans. Festivities start at 7 p.m., outdoors in front of The Cary. Zombiepalooza features 12 locally produced zombie short films and a free screening of “The Dead Don’t Die,” starring Bill Murray and an ensemble cast.
Ten films screened at last year’s Zombiepalooza. The First Place winner was “Missed Call,” by filmmaker Michael Pearce. Second Place and The People’s Choice awards went to “Day of the Living Phil,” produced by Joey Wendt, Max Williams and Kevin Steele.
Twelve local filmmakers of various ages have created one-to-five minute zombie films. All entries must include a hair dryer visible in the film. Those films screening this year: “Fatal Time,” by Korey Merritt. “The Carolina Creeper,” by Nikolas Williams. “Project Resurrection,” by Eric Ayscue. “The March of the Dead,” by Gavin Edmonds. “Bustin’ Rhymes: A Zombie Spitacular,” by Evan Catlin. “Foggy Vale,” by Max Williams. “Kira,” by Erik Reuter. “The Meat Up,” by Patrick Goodwin. “A Zombie Cacophony,” by Cameron Bertolini. “Oh, Deer,” by Vin Dormani. “Lover’s Lane,” by Maria Williams. “Pulse,” by Stephaun Perry.
Prizes for best films and costumes are provided thanks to Zombiepalooza sponsors: Crosstown Pub & Grill, Raleigh-Cary Realty, Mosquito Wizard, and Pharmacy Bottle + Beverage.
