Indie Film Producing: Understanding Filmmaking Logistics

Workshop: 3 hours
This workshop will cover basics in producing films on the indie level, exploring topics such as methods & strategies of crowdfunding, production insurance, contracts, production logistics, casting & crewing, and more. The intensive will focus on real-world examples, both from the instructor’s own experiences & students actively workshopping their own projects.
Included in the class period are;
– A structured presentation covering base-line understanding of overseeing a project from a producer’s perspective & necessary steps for production success
– Real-world case studies from past projects in my own career
– Class discussions on personal roadblocks, problem-solving, and keeping a project alive & moving forward
– Class workshopping on individual projects & areas of attention
Blake Kinsey is a filmmaker & video producer based in Durham. He holds a BFA degree in Film & Television Production, and has been creating films since his early-teens. His work has screened at festivals across the southeast, including Rome International Film Festival (RIFF), Reedy Reels: The Greenville Film Festival & Stranger Days Independent Film Festival. He now resides in Durham, NC, where he produces work locally through his company, Back Porch Films.
