Sick Chick Flicks set to take over The Cary

  • 4th annual film festival takes place October 12-13
  • Features Horror, Sci-Fi, and Fantasy films created by female filmmakers world-wide
  • New this year: Pitch Your Project, an opportunity for filmmakers to pitch their latest film project

CARY, N.C. (September 26, 2019) The Sick Chick Flicks Film Fest (SCFFF) returns to The Cary Theater for its 4th year on October 12-13, featuring the best Horror, Science Fiction, and Fantasy films created by female filmmakers from across the globe. Screenings take place Saturday, Oct. 12, from Noon to 11 p.m., and on Sunday, Oct. 13, from 2 to 8 p.m. Mistress of Ceremonies for SCFFF is local actress Scary Cary Jones. The festival director is local indie filmmaker Christine Parker.

Screenings

There will be four blocks of short films, featuring the best Horror, Science Fiction, and Fantasy films competing for the Sick Chicks Flicks coveted Blood Raven Awards. Two Saturday film blocks will include short films as well as two feature-length films. Sunday’s screenings open with a live FX demo, followed by two film blocks that include short films and one feature-length film. The weekend wraps up with an awards program Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Guest Speakers

Saturday’s schedule features two speakers who will discuss topics of importance to independent filmmakers:

  • Cristina Trinity VĂ©lez-Justo – “What’s That Sound?! The Impact of Quality Sound & Music in Horror” (12-1 p.m.)
  • New York City-based writer and director Christina Ria – “Crowdfunding to Build Independence” (5-6 p.m.)

Sunday features one guest speaker and live demo: Ceirra Doll demonstrates live Special Effects with Q&A session (2 p.m.)

Pitch Your Project

Launching this year, the festival will feature “Pitch Your Project” for filmmakers in attendance to pitch their next film idea. The audience will then vote on the project they think should be funded, and the festival will award a cash prize and free entry into a future Sick Chick Flicks Film Festival for the winning project.

About The Cary Theater

The Cary Theater, located at 122 E. Chatham St. in downtown Cary, lights up downtown with its mission to provide a unique setting for the community to experience art house cinema and live performances that enhance the cultural arts experience in the Town of Cary. Originally constructed in 1946 to serve as the Town’s first indoor movie theater, The Cary was meticulously restored in 2014 to create a vibrant space downtown that offers independent film, live performance comedy and improv, the Six String Presents music series as well as other live events. The Cary is owned by the Town of Cary and operated by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources. Most film tickets are $6.00 ($4.00 for Film Circle members) unless otherwise noted and can be purchased online and at the box office.
