Just Eat It ─ A Food Waste Story

November 27

7:00 pm

10.00

We all love food. As a society, we devour countless cooking shows, culinary magazines and foodie blogs. So how could we possibly be throwing nearly 50% of it in the trash? Filmmakers and food lovers Jen and Grant dive into the issue of waste from farm, through retail, all the way to the back of their own fridge. After catching a glimpse of the billions of dollars of good food that is tossed each year in North America, they pledge to quit grocery shopping and survive only on discarded food. What they find is truly shocking.  All profits from the ticket sales will go to support the work of Good Hope Farm, a partnership project between the Town of Cary and a coalition of local nonprofits with a shared vision of supporting small farmers, connecting Cary to local organic food, conserving the environment, and preserving Cary’s agricultural history. Don’t miss our panel discussion following the film with local experts who will discuss how food systems, home composting, and organic farming methods help build a resilient community here in Cary.  On the panel there will be three people (Sarah Justice, Town of Cary Environmental Outreach Program Coordinator and Compost Educator, Thomas Saile Farm Manager at Good Hope Farm, and Erin White, founder of Community Food Lab, a Raleigh-based design and consulting firm focused on building sustainable, equitable food systems.) Emily Barrett will serve as the moderator.
